The European Molecular Biology Laboratory is a non-profit organisation and a basic research institute funded by public research monies from 19 member states. Research at EMBL is conducted by approximately 80 independent groups covering the spectrum of molecular biology. Beschreibung, Aufgabenstellung

The IT Services Group is looking for an IT Support Engineer to handle the following responsibilities:
  • Installation and support of EMBL desktop computing environment with about 600 Windows and Mac OS computers
  • Providing effective troubleshooting for desktop software, hardware and network related issues
  • Tracking user requests and assuring a high quality of service and end user satisfaction
  • Identifying and implementing automation of IT support processes
  • Being a competent, friendly and reliable partner to our users by providing IT helpdesk and 1st level support


The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years work experience in a professional IT organization supporting large heterogeneous IT infrastructures (i.e. Windows and Mac OS).

As well as being a technical expert in managing current desktop operating systems, (s)he will have solid knowledge of current standard desktop technologies and client application software packages.

Experience in automation of systems and software installations and a broad overview of major aspects of networking and related technologies is required.

Background in different server technologies would be beneficial.

Good communication and English language skills are required and a basic knowledge of German would be advantagous.

A service-oriented attitude, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well and professionally under pressure are essential.

The ideal candidate will be able to work independently as well as working as a part of a team.

An initial contract of 3 years will be offered to the successful candidate. This can be renewed, depending on circumstances at the time of review.
